YORKVILLE - On Friday, the Buckeye Local Football Alumni will recognize two who have stood out in Buckeye Local football history for their efforts on the gridiron.
Nathan Schaal, a 2009 Buckeye Local graduate; and the late Dick Thurnes, coach for the former Buckeye South High School, will be the next to be inducted to the alumni group's Ring of Honor at a ceremony to be held at 6:30 p.m. before the Panthers' home game against River High School.
As part of the Panthers' defensive line, Schaal set the school's record for sacks and earned numerous regional honors.
Thurnes led the team through four undefeated seasons in the 1960s.
Schaal, who isn't able to attend, and Thurnes will be represented by family members during the induction.
A free tailgate party will precede the ceremony, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. at Warren Township Park in Tiltonsville.
