BARNESVILLE - The state-ranked Martins Ferry Purple Riders (13-0) volleyball team defeated the host Barnesville Shamrocks on Monday night by scores of 19-25, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-15.
It was a milestone night for a pair of Martins Ferry players as senior SJ Koller had 29 digs to surpass the 2,000-mark and junior Olivia Harkness recorded an eye-popping 50 assists to move past the 2,000 mark. Harkness also logged 10 digs and a trio of service aces. Giana Chirpas added 23 kills, six digs and three aces, while Maddie Lucas charted 18 digs and five kills. Nicole Hammerquist added 15 kills and London Hodor seven.
Martins Ferry dipped to No. 3 in the latest Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association poll and received six first-place votes. Coldwater remains No. 1 with Meadowbrook moving into the No. 2 spot.
The Purple Riders host Buckeye Local on Wednesday and Cambridge a night later.

HANNIBAL -- The Pilots swept the Tigers at home Monday, coming away with a 25-8, 25-13, 28-26 victory.
Mallarie Maddy led River with 16 kills while Hallie Hammel collected 14 kills. The two also led the way defensively with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
The Pilots' Gracen Reed kept the offense humming with 25 assists.

WHEELING -- The Cadets defeated the Bobcats on Monday in an OVAC 4A girls' soccer tournament semifinal at muddy Holloway Field.
Linsly, the No. 2 seed in OVAC 4A, now advances to Saturday's championship game where they will face top-seeded St. Clairsville at 10 a.m. at Weir High School's Jimmy Carey Stadium.
BOYS SOCCER
St. Clairsville 6, Harrison Central 3
ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- The Red Devils advanced through their OVAC 4A boys soccer semifinal by doubling up the visiting Huskies.
Trevor Tuttle put through four goals for St. C. while James Parsons also scored. Lucas Causey divvied up five assists.
The game was tied 3-3 at half.
St. Clairsville is the No. 2 seed in the OVAC 4A tournament and will face the winner of Tuesday's No. 4 Oak Glen at No. 1 Union Local matchup in the championship game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Weir. Union Local and Oak Glen’s semifinal Tuesday is set to take place at St. Clairsville.
