SHADYSIDE - Don't look now but the roar is back in the Shadyside.
The Tigers (4-0) prevailed 43-21 over visiting frontier in a battle of 3-0 teams Friday night at Fleming Field.
Senior quarterback Jayden Johnson ran for 179 yards and three touchdowns, while also passing for 61 more. Ace Nelson added a pair of short yardage TD runs and Logan Cather had a 10-yard scoring jaunt.
Shadyside amassed 419 yards of total offense.
Barnesville 48, Buckeye Local 7
YORKVILLE - Trey Toliver only carried the ball six times Friday night, but three of those totes ended up in the end zone from 54, 59 and 55 yards. He finished with 210 stripes as the Shamrocks (4-0) had the way with the winless Panthers (0-4) at World War II Memorial Stadium.
Colt Carpenter, playing for the first time since being injured in the opener at John Glenn, completed 5 of 6 passes for 92 yards. He teamed with Joel Detling and Wyatt leek on 15-yard scoring strikes.
Mammoth Kaiden Berry had a 3-yard TD run and Linas Graef was 6-for-6 on PATs.
Bridgeport 46, Federal Hocking 6
STEWART - Aiden Kinsey threw for six touchdowns as the Bulldogs (2-2) won for the second straight week.
Kinsey, who accounted for 265 yards through the air just on his TDs, combined with Jaleel Vincent and Isaac Benda for two scoring strikes each. He also found Bryson Arno and Coen Brinker
Monroe Central 40, Caldwell 0
WOODSFIELD - Cooper Howell ran for 137 yards on eight carries and completed 6 of 10 passes for 79 yards as the Seminoles (3-1) blanked the visiting Redskins at Monroe Park.
Jett Kaiser added 63 infantry yards and snagged three Howell passes for 24. Max Demchak caught three passes for 55 yards.
Steubenville 21, Cardinal Mooney 16
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Big Red football team passed its biggest test so far.
Steubenville went on the road for the first time this season to battle Cardinal Mooney Friday night at Youngstown State University’s Stambaugh Stadium, and fended off the Cardinals for a hard-fought 21-16 victory.
Big Red opened the scoring with a 10-yard Stephen McShan touchdown in the opening quarter. After Cardinal Mooney got on the board with a field goal late in the first to make it 7-3 after one, James Turner extended the Big Red lead to 14-3 with a 5-yard scoring run with 7:30 to go before halftime.
Big Red led 14-9 at halftime.
James Turner added his second scoring run of the night in the third quarter, this time a three-yard plunge with 7:25 left in the quarter to make it 21-9.
Wheeling Park 16, Musselman 15
INWOOD -- Wheeling Park eked out a one-point road victory Friday against the Applemen.
Senior Park QB Jay Bordas threw two touchdown passes to help his team to victory, a 57-yard score to Michael Neider and a four-yard score to Preston Heatherington.
Freshman Kallon Tipton's 37-yard field goal was the difference for Wheeling Park in the win, which pushes the Patriots to 2-1 on the season.
Indian Creek 42, Weir 7
WINTERSVILLE -- Creek standout tailback Bruce Mazar took a handoff on the first Creek snap, bounced it outside and sprinted 67 yards past Red Riders defenders and the Redskins (2-2) never looked back.
The scoring run was the first of two for Mazar, who finished with 133 yards on just 10 carries, all in the first half.
Creek's Ethan Starr completed passes to seven different targets in going 7 of 8 for 118 yards and a score, an 8-yard connection with Adam Gaschler. Starr also finished with 79 rushing yards for 197 total yards on the night
Weir's Zack Howland scored in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard plunge.
Toronto 33, Steubenville Catholic 6
TORONTO -- Toronto built a 20-point advantage at halftime, and the Red Knights went on to defeat the Crusaders, 33-6, Friday night at Clarke Hinkle Field.
Max Rebich completed 21-of-28 passes for 319 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Red Knights. Drake Bouscher ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. Colt Joynson hauled in six receptions for 147 yards and a Toronto touchdown, Kenny Jett tallied five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown and Brady Close collected four receptions for 59 yards. For the Crusaders, Matty Jones completed eight passes for 44 yards while throwing two interceptions. He also ran eight times for 42 yards. Rahim Mitchell collected 120 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Michael Fabbro finished the game with four receptions for 38 yards.
Brooke 56, Cambridge 6
WELLSBURG -- The Bruins are off to a 2-0 start thanks to a big victory in their home opener on Friday night.
The Brooke defense started the scoring with a sack in the end zone for a safety, then Kamden Sperringer fired a 24-yard TD pass to Michael Gibson to make it 9-0.
Sperringer and Gibson connected again on an 11-yard TD, then, after the Bobcats (0-4) got on the board, Cole Bolen scored on a 15-yard run to make it 23-6 Bruins after one quarter.
Martins Ferry 34, Edison 0
RICHMOND -- The undefeated Purple Riders kept their perfect record intact, topping the Wildcats at the Edison Unified Sports Complex.
The Purple Riders (4-0) led 21-0 at halftime and kept the Wildcats (1-3) off the board the rest of the way.
Walkquem Cox ran for more than 200 yards and scored four touchdowns on runs of 21, 11, 40 and 12 yards.
Jakori Cox also scored on a 35-yard run.
In games not reported, Linsly (1-2) scored as time ran out to rally past St. Clairsville (0-4), 32-29, at Bethany College, Southern Garrett pounded Madonna 54-0 and River (4-0) blanked visiting Magnolia, 40-0, at Martin Flannery Field in Hannibal.
