St. Clairsville Halts Two-Game Skid By Blanking Indian Creek Girls, 8-0

Four Red Devils Tally Two Goals Each In Victory; Match Halted By Lightning

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Four different St. Clairsville players tallied two goals each as it halted a two-game losing skid Thursday night in girls' high school soccer action.

Ashlynn Lednik, Elizabeth Morgan, Reagan Gaiser and Emma Gasber each found the net twice as the Red Devils (6-2) posted an 8-0 whitewashing of the visiting Redskins (1-5) on the artificial pitch at Red Devil Stadium. The match was halted by the referees in the 72nd minute due to lightning.

"The last two (matches against Steubenville and Linsly) were the toughest two opponents, plus Beaver Local are by far the top three teams we are going to play this season," St. Clairsville head coach Wes Stoner advised. "It was a rough stretch there for six days. We lost a pair of one-goal matches at Steubenville and Linsly."

Gaiser, a promising sophomore, also added three assists in a strong performance.

"She played excellent," Stoner noted. "Due to a formation change, she hasn't been starting but that's the beauty of the depth we have this year. We have talent like that that can just come in when we need it."

Elizabeth Morgan notched a pair of helpers, while Lednik, Felicity Morgan and Layla Freeman each had one assist.

After a 20-minute delay for lightning prior to pre-match warmups, it didn't take the Red Devils long to get on the scoreboard as Gaiser slipped the ball to Elizabeth Morgan in front of the net and she re-directed it home for a 1-0 lead just three minutes in.

Seven minutes later, the same duo connected again to make it 2-0.

Gaiser charted his third straight assist when her corner kick was headed into the net by Gasber. Gasber leaped over the scrum of players and bounced the ball over top of Indian Creek goalkeeper Tatum Campbell for a 3-0 reading.

Elizabeth Morgan sent a long pass ahead to Lednik just past the midfield stripe. Lednik, who missed all of last season with a serious knee injury that required surgery, dribbled the ball down the field before pounding it home for a 4-0 lead in the 43rd minute.

"It was nice to see Ashlynn score a couple of goals," Stoner said. "She's progressing a little more in each and every game. It's tough to get re-acclimated to getting her feet underneath her and her fitness back to where it was, but she's still a great player. She is only going to continue to improve."

Gasber's strong shot trickled through Campbell to make it 5-0 as Lednik's nifty pass sent her in all alone.

Gaiser completed her outstanding outing with goals in the 64th and 71st minutes off assists by Felicity Morgan and Freeman.

St. Clairsville goalkeeper Kiya Kyer only faced three shots, with only one being a quality scoring chance. It was her program-record 27th shutout.

"I've said it before, our back four is legit," Stoner stressed.

Campbell, who faced 23 shots, recorded 15 saves, some of the highlight reel variety.

St. Clairsville returns to Red Devil Stadium on Tuesday when Oak Glen visits.
