Causey’s Late Goal Pushes St. Clairsville To District Title

RICHMOND - For the third time in Jeff Robert's tenure as head boys soccer coach at St. Clairsville, the Red Devils will play in the Ohio Division IV, Region 15 semifinals.
Thursday night at the Unified Sports Complex on the campus of Edison High School, Lucas Causey buried an assist from Ace Lednik late in the 78th minute as No. 3 St. Clairsville (14-6) slipped past second-seeded Beaver Local (16-3-1) by a 3-2 count in the East 2 District finals.
"I don't think many people thought much of us this year after what we lost to graduation last year, but I think this shows that we are building a program," Roberts said. "It's the next man up mentality."
Trevor Tuttle used his head to give the Red Devils a 2-0 halftime advantage. Both of his goals came on throw-ins from Causey.
Beaver Local, which defeated St. Clairsville 5-2 on Sept. 1, drew even midway through the 78th, but the Red Devils wouldn't be denied.
"Lucas absolutely buried that shot to win it," Roberts recalled.
St. Clairsville will now face top-seeded West Muskingum next Wednesday at McFarland Stadium in Cambridge for a berth in the regional finals.
