High School Football Roundup: Seminoles Handle Red Knights; St. Clairsville Edges Out Bruins

WOODSFIELD - Monroe Central led 18-0 at the half and added 21 points in the second half in handing Toronto its first loss of the season, 39-0, at Monroe Park Friday night.

The Seminoles (5-3) boosted their playoff stock with the lop-sided victory. They were No. 10 in Ohio Division VI, Region 23. The Red Knights (7-1) entered as No. 2 in Division VII, Region 27.

Jett Kaiser ran for 106 yards and scored one TD while catching two passes for 66 more stripes. Cooper Howell had 16 carries for 92 yards and reached the end zone twice. He also passed for 99 yards on 5-of-5. Defensively, Howell picked off two passes and deflected another. Carter Frye, Owen Howard and Ryler Lake also had touchdown runs.

Max Demchak had an interception and Howard recovered a fumble.

Monroe Central travels to Cameron next Friday.

St. Clairsville 14, Brooke 13

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The Red Devils (3-5) won for the third straight time after an 0-5 start as they nipped the Bruins at Red Devil Stadium.

Hunter Orum's 21-yard TD run in the fourth quarter put St. Clairsville ahead 14-7, but the Bruins answered with a 38-yard touchdown pass of their own, only to see the extra point fail.

Brody Clifford had a 6-yard scoring run for the Red Devils. James Parsons booted both PATs.

Orum ran 12 times for 74 yards and Ian Mclean added 61 yards on 10 carries. Clifford passed for 84 on 6 of 16.

St. Clairsville hosts Indian Creek next Friday.

Shadyside 33, Caldwell 7

CALDWELL -Colt Cook ran for 207 yards and two touchdowns as Shadyside (7-1) rebounded nicely from its first loss with a thumping of Caldwell Friday night in Noble County.

Cook had scoring runs of 14 and 38 yards and also caught a 11-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Johnson. In addition, Cook had five tackles and recovered a fumble on defense.

Johnson passed for 122 yards on 13 of 18.

Kolten Wallace had a 3-yard TD run.

Shadyside visits Bridgeport next Friday.

Bellaire 34, Harrison Central 0

CADIZ -- The Big Reds did all their damage in the first half of Friday's road victory over the Huskies.

Trevor Dowery ran for four touchdowns-- three in a 27-point second quarter for the Big Reds-- and totaled 123 yards on the ground in the win. In the first quarter, Dowery ran for a 55-yard touchdown as Bellaire led 7-0 after the opening frame. The senior ran for touchdowns of nine, two, and 10 yards in the second quarter, with Raekwon Pettigrew also running in a 20-yard touchdown for a 34-0 halftime lead.

Pettigrew had 71 rushing yards and 26 receiving yards. Kole Gonglik was Bellaire's leading receiver with 58 yards through the air. Micheal Dippel completed six of seven passes for 104 yards.

Gonglik also intercepted a pass.

Olin Wade rushed for 43 yards to lead Harrison Central.

River 62, Shenandoah 36

HANNIBAL - The Pilots (8-0) used the running of Wyatt Stalder in their Homecoming rout of the Zeps. The senior scored seven touchdowns and ran for two points.

Canfield 23, Wheeling Park 7

WHEELING -- The Patriots fell to 2-5 on the season after a road loss to the visiting Cardinals.

Canfield led 6-0 after the first quarter and 13-0 at halftime.

Wheeling Park cut into the deficit with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jay Bordas to Jaxson Updegraff, but Canfield responded to lead 20-7 after three quarters.

The Patriots remain at home next week where they host Jefferson (1-5).

In other games, Cameron rolled past Frontier 46-14; Steubenville Catholic topped Bridgeport 34-18; Cambridge outscored Weir 35-14; Indian Creek blanked Beaver Local 27-0; East Liverpool ripped Oak Glen 41-0 and Tyler Consolidated roared by Magnolia 55-14.
