St. Clairsville rolled to an 8-0 whitewashing and will play for the district title Wednesday at John Glenn High School in New Concord against Coshocton.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - For the second time this season, St. Clairsville has pitched an 8-0 shutout against Indian Creek in girls' high school soccer action. The latest coming Monday night in an Ohio Division IV, East I District semifinal on the artificial pitch at Red Devil Stadium.

The match was halted in the middle of the 45th minute when Emma Gasber recorded her third goal of the night to kick in the OHSAA mercy rule.

"I thought we played well tonight," St. Clairsville head coach Wes Stoner said. "The girls moved the ball really well and we finished at the net."

With the victory, their 12th in a row, the top-seeded Red Devils (17-2) will play No. 3 Coshocton on Wednesday at John Glenn High School in New Concord. The Redskins blanked No. 9 Sandy Valley 5-0, also on Monday night. That match begins at 6:30 p.m.

Molly Schultz enjoyed one of those nights that players dream of as the freshman phenom scored the first goal - which turned out to be the game-winner - and handed out five assists to bring her season total to 29, breaking the old mark of 28 by Macy Malin.

"Molly is a player," Stoner noted. "She is an excellent passer, but she can also score."

Schultz, Elizabeth Morgan and Gasber made it 3-0 within the first 15 minutes.

Indian Creek had a chance to score on a breakaway but the shot went wide left as goalkeeper Kiya Kyer came out to cut down the angle.

"Kiya played well. She was only tested once or twice but she made the saves," Stoner said.

The shutout was Kyer's program-best 32nd of her stellar career.

In addition to Gasber's trio of netfinders and Schultz's outstanding effort, Ashlynn Lednik scored twice and assisted on another, while Reagan Gaiser also scored. Isabella Cunningham logged an assist.

St. Clairsville advanced to the regional finals in 2024 when the seniors were sophomores.
