Shadyside Board of Education maps out school opening plans
SHADYSIDE — The Shadyside Board of Education met online Wednesday, mapping out its plans for the upcoming school year.
“We had a lengthy discussion on school and athletics moving forward to begin the year. We have four groups that will be planning for the start of the school year,” District Superintendent John Haswell said. “Each individual building will have a group made up of staff, parents, board members and administrators.
“We have one district wide group that will coordinate the planning.”
The board also approved membership in the Coalition for Equity & Adequacy as well as with the Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools. Board members also approved a contract with OMERESA and with Easter Seals.
The board accepted the resignation of Dena Porter as an aide while filling three other positions. Amber Pricket was hired as full-time custodian at Leona Middle School; Allison Pacifico was hired as Jefferson School office aide while Bre Roseberry was employed as a speech therapist.
Board members also took the following actions:
∫ Approved a list of fall sports assistant coaches;
∫ Approved a list of supplemental contracts for the 2020-21 school year;
∫ Approved the salary schedules for 2020-21 school year;
∫ Approved student insurance;
∫ Approved FY 2020 appropriations;
∫ Approved Free and Reduced Lunch Program for 2020-21;
∫ Approved bread and milk quotes;
∫ Approved contract with East Central Ohio ESC;
∫ Approved a proposal for four additional cameras at Fleming Field from Acuity;
∫ Approved the installation of a chair lift at the high school from Mobility 101;
∫ Approved a contract with Chi Corp. for WiFi boosters at Jefferson;
∫ Approved a $47,000 purchase of sanitizing material for school year 2020-21;
∫ Approved a proposal for professional design of stadium lighting; and
∫ Approved a donation of $112,000 from the Community Foundation for the turf project.
The board of education’s next meeting will be at 6 p.m. July 29 via Zoom.
