NIRALEE HOWELL

Niralee (Nira) Reed Howell, 86 of Shadyside, OH, died on Sunday, September 6, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Bellaire, OH.

She was born on September 8, 1933, the daughter of the late Sidney D. Reed and Lorena Swchall Reed of Woodsfield, OH.

Nira was a graduate of Woodsfield High School and attended Ohio University. She was employed by The Ohio State University Research Foundation in Columbus, OH, and by the US Government in Aberdeen, MD. Nira was an employee of the Belmont Community (City) Hospital for 30 plus years. She also worked as a realtor for Century 21 Real Estate in St. Clairsville, OH.

Nira was an active member of the Shadyside Area Chamber of Commerce where she served as a board member for many years. Nira was an active member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church and served as the Treasurer for a number of years. She was also a member of the Shadyside Order of Eastern Stars.

Nira is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, John R. Howell; her daughter, Kimberly (Dave) Lenz; her grandson, Michael (Krista) Lenz; granddaughter, Amanda Lenz; and great-granddaughter, Lorileigh A. Lenz, all of Shadyside; and by her brother, William Reed of Columbus, OH.

Nira was preceded in death by her brothers, 3-year-old James Sidney Reed and Joseph William Reed (Woodsfield, OH). Also by her sisters, Virginia Reed (Delaware, OH), Edith Griffith, Carrie Kindall, Helen Sechrest, Hazel Ferris, Bernice Krietzman, all of Columbus, OH, Geneva Adams (Moorsville, NC) and Mary Salisbury (Woodsfield, OH).

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m., at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, OH; and Wednesday, at the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church, 3838 Lincoln Ave., Shadyside, OH, from noon until time of services a 1 p.m., with Rev. Don Perks officiating. Interment in the Belmont County Memorial Park in St. Clairsville, OH.
