BEALLSVILLE - For Ty English, the rebuilding process of the Beallsville baseball program has been a long and tedious process. However, the Blue Devils' skipper believes his team may start to turn the corner this spring.
"I can't wait to see what this year brings," English said. "We've struggled with numbers the last few years, but those are finally starting to go up and we have several returning lettermen, which I think will play to our advantage."
Regardless if it's prep baseball or MLB, pitching is the key and the Blue Devils boast a contingent of arms that aren't totally green to being on the mound in a varsity game.
"We didn't have many boys who were experienced, but these kids now have a season under their belt and I feel good about our pitching," English said.
Seniors Deyton Hughes and Tae English leading the pitching staff. When not pitching, they'll be in the infield at first and short, respectively. Hughes was the Blue Devils' leading hitter a season ago at .463.
Juniors Kasen Kinzy and Kane Wells are expected to take on a bigger role at shortstop and catcher, respectively. Both can eat innings, too.
The sophomore class features Tryson English, who batted at a .375 clip a season ago. He will be at shortstop, center field or on the mound.
Other 10th graders are Fred Anderson (1B/OF), James Palmer (C/OF), Garrett Perkins (3B/P), Reed Smith (2B/RF), Thorn Stoffel (OF/3B/P).
Freshmen in the mix are Dalton Fulton (RF) and Logan Taylor (C/3B/OF).
Coach English is being assisted by Jeff Fluharty and John Smith.
