Event focuses on caring for loved ones with memory loss
Space is still available for Caring for Those With Memory Loss, an October community resource workshop for those who may be caring for a loved one with memory issues.
While this workshop will focus on memory issues, most of the information is appropriate for anyone who wants to stay in their own home as long as possible.
The fee includes lunch, breaks and a gift bag of assistive devices.
The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at First Christian Church, 1343 National Road, Wheeling.
Scholarships are available to cover the fee.
To register or for more information, call Altenheim Resource Services at 304-243-0996. Checks may be made payable to CLIC and mailed to: CLIC, PO Box 674, Morgantown WV 26057-0674. Payment can also be made at the door, but you must register in advance.
Participants do not need to be a health care provider to attend.
This workshop is recommended for older adults, family caregivers, friends, neighbors, home health employees, visiting homemakers, licensed practical nurses and students.
Nursing continuing education hours will be provided.
Space is limited. Alternate formats, special diets and additional accessibility needs will be accommodated upon request.
This program is provided with support from the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services, through a grant from the Administration on Aging, an agency of the Administration for Community Living.
It is part of the WVBOSS Dementia Training Outreach & Training Services project and is held in partnership with West Virginia Assistive Technology System, the Community Living Initiatives Corp., Family Service-Upper Ohio Valley and Altenheim Resource & Referral Services.
The Centers for Disease Control define aging in place as “the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age, income or ability level.”
Fortunately for residents of Ohio County, there are community programs, services and resources that offer support and assistance.
Over the course of a few hours, knowledgeable speakers on panels addressing transportation, in-home services and community supports will provide information to participants.
In addition to the panels, special sessions will address legal issues, Alzheimer’s disease and Project Lifesaver.
