The 1880s former sheriff’s residence is a museum to the entire county. The building that once housed each sheriff and his family is now home to artifacts and pictures telling the history of the many communities throughout Belmont County.

The 26 rooms have been restored and furnished to fit the Victorian era. Tours are open 1-4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, May 1 to Oct. 1.

NATIONAL IMPERIAL GLASS MUSEUM

The museum is dedicated to the memory of Imperial Glass, its employees and the beautiful glassware they created. The museum houses an extensive display of Imperial glassware, along with the history of Imperial Glass and its workers.

Established in 1970 by the Martins Ferry Historical Society, the museum houses historic artifacts and information pertaining to Martins Ferry and the surrounding area.

THE UNOFFICIAL LEGO MUSEUM

The Unofficial LEGO Museum is three floors of the largest private collection of LEGO toys and the imaginative world they can create. Collections of more than 4 million bricks create 3-D mosaics that have turned a simple child’s toy into works of art.

Open on weekends only, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Clark Gable Foundation seeks to preserve the memory of the famed actor, with a monument at his reconstructed birth home and a yearly birthday celebration. The museum holds extensive memorabilia for fans of the “King of Hollywood.”

Along with its host of recreational opportunities, Oglebay Park is home to the Mansion Museum, the one-time estate of Earl W. Oglebay. Both the Mansion Museum and Glass Museum are under the direction of the Oglebay Institute.

Originally known as the Wheeling Custom House, it was once the federal headquarters for the Western District of Virginia. Its completion coincided with the beginning of the Civil War and provided a facility for constitutional conventions that led to eventual statehood for West Virginia in 1863.
