Union Local’s dream season ends in D-III state semifinals

Jets fall to Cincinnati Purcell Marian, 59-43

DAYTON – Unfortunately all dreams come to an end at some point.

Such was the case Thursday afternoon for the dream season that the Union Local girls basketball team enjoyed this winter.

The Jets gave Cincinnati Purcell Marian all it wanted and then some before running out of gas in a 59-43 loss in a Division III state semifinal at University of Dayton Arena.

Union Local, which struggled from the field to a tune of 28% shooting, simply couldn’t continue to fend off the quick-footed and athletic Cavaliers whose pressure was as good as advertised.

Purcell Marian forced only 16 turnovers, but its work on the defensive end caused numerous rushed shots and didn’t allow the Jets to establish exactly what it was seeking to do offensively.

Union Local, which finishes at 25-4, received solid performances from its dynamic junior duo of Torre Kildow and Reagan Vinskovich. Each scored 13 points. Vinskovich had eight rebounds.

Senior Hannah Merritt added 11, including a trio of treys.

Purcell Marian, which features an underclass-dominated roster, was led by freshman Dee Alexander, who showed by national recruiting services have her rated as the top player in the Class of 2025 and why Division I programs are eager to land her services.

She finished with a game-high in both points and rebounds with 19 and 13.

Jayda Mosley, the only Cavalier player to have played in last year’s state semi-final loss to Hiland, finished with 18. Ky’Aira Miller added 11.
