Gildow: 50th wedding anniversary

BRIDGEPORT – Ronald and Sandra Gildow of Bridgeport are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today, May 12. They were united in marriage on May 12, 1962, at the First United Methodist Church in Kirkwood by the Rev. Leonard Solt.

Ronald is the son of the late Mildred Gildow, formerly of Martins Ferry. He was in the Army, a Martins Ferry volunteer firefighter and worked at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Martins Ferry plant for 42 years. He was president of the United Steelworkers of America Local Union #1238 for 16 years and is still active in SOAR (Steelworker Organization of Active Retirees).

Sandra is the daughter of the late Paul and Lula Paxson, formerly of Brookside. She worked at the C&P Telephone Company in Wheeling for eight years until she stayed at home to raise their children.

They have three children: Greg (Ginger) Gildow of Yorkville, Christy (Duane) Violet of Dover and Jodi (Aaron) Apitzsch of St.Clairsville. They have seven grandchildren: Ryan, Holly, Nick, Jennifer, Lauren, Lindsey and Blake.

A party was held in their honor on March 31 at Wheeling Park to celebrate their anniversary and their 75th birthdays.
