Ohio spending more than $3M to fight violent crime

Ohio taxpayers will spend $3.4 million for grants to Ohio law enforcement agencies. The new round of grants will go to 44 agencies in 28 counties will hopes of reducing violent crime through additional personnel and technology upgrades, Gov. Mike DeWine announced. WHEELING — The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department is announcing that a raccoon has tested positive for rabies. The raccoon was found along Route 88 near Tierra Estates in Ohio County. The raccoon was collected Monday and tested positive for rabies this week. This is the first laboratory-confirmed animal rabies case in Ohio County for 2026.
