Linsly School graduate Blount receives HOF Fellowship in Canton

WHEELING - He is the son of an NFL Hall-of-Famer. Now, Akil Blount has his own piece of the pro football Hall of Fame. The former Linsly School three-sport standout has been chosen as the initial recipient of the James Harris-Doug Williams Fellowship. The fellowship is named after NFL quarterbacks and came to fruition through a joint effort by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Black College Football Hall of Fame. The annual Wheeling Elks Junior Golf Tournament drew a solid collection of male and female players at the annual event held last Wednesday. Champions were crowned in four boys and girls divisions. Off The Tee: Scramble slated to honor Ducker and benefit cancer research

On Friday, more than 160 golfers arrived at Belmont Hills Country Club to support Bridgeport Local Schools with the annual Niekro Scramble. On Saturday, Oct. 12, area golfers have the chance to pay homage to a Bridgeport High graduate, Ron Ducker, who passed away in December of 2017 from cancer. The annual Ron Ducker Memorial Golf Outing will be held at Cumberland Trail Golf Course in Pataskala. Ducker is a 1978 Bridgeport High School graduate. Bellaire’s Dunfee leads Georgia team to repeat state baseball title

BELLAIRE — Mike Dunfee is doubly happy these days. The 1993 Bellaire High grad is head baseball coach at Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, Ga. His Trojans recently captured the Class A state championship, capping a brilliant 32-5 campaign. The state title is extra sweet as it marks a repeat championship performance for Dunfee’s program. Myers claims Hardman Memorial Tournament at Oglebay Park

The Oglebay Park Golf Club hosted its sixth event of the 2019 season last Sunday when 100 players took part in the Randy Hardman Memorial Tournament, which was sponsored by Miklas Meat Market. Bryan Myers, by virtue of a scorecard playoff, claimed the title of the medal division with a round of 68.
