Valentines for overseas soldiers

POWHATAN — Members of the Powhatan Senior Center recently made valentines for soldiers deployed overseas. The group purchased and made valentines for the service members as a way of showing they care about them and their important work of protecting the nation.

Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14.

Mary Beth Tennant, Senior Services of Belmont County center director, said they got the idea to make the valentines from a recent article featured in The Times Leader.

“This is one of the many events that not only keeps the seniors active, but also is their way of giving back to our military for which we so appreciate,” Tennant said.

Seniors who participated included Alice Brown, Melda Gallaher, Mike Gust, Priss Jeffers, John Selvy, Arlean Selvy, Nancy Campbell, Mary Cordery, Julie Cordery, Roger Doty, Joe Jeffers, John Henes, Pete Thomas, Blaine Cordery, John Henes, Pete Thomas and Blaine Cordery.

Tennant said 95 valentine’s have been mailed out and more will be sent by other seniors.
