School daze coming
School will be starting again soon — another summer has flown by, hasn’t it?
We did some school shopping for our young son Henry recently. We took advantage of Ohio’s tax free holiday, a weekend when shoppers don’t have to pay tax on items such as clothes and school supplies.
This is the first year we’ve had a chance to actually shop on the holiday, and we did pretty well. It was helpful not to have to pay that extra money out in taxes.
We got most of his stuff at the Walmart in St. Clairsville and there was enough to choose from. Sometimes we shop too late and it seems like there’s not much left in the stores.
It seems a lot of retailers move seasonal items so quickly these days. It hardly gives people time to even think about shopping for items. For example, Halloween stuff is showing up in some stores, and I’m still enjoying my summer decorations and colors.
Oh well, just because it’s there that doesn’t mean I have to buy it, right? I’m sure I have plenty of old stuff to put out, probably things I’ve forgotten about even owning. It will be like shopping in my own closet — the stuff will seem like new again.
Until then I will continue holding on to the last days of summer and wish for a (dare I say it?) warm winter with little to no snow or ice — or at least just snow on my days off so we can build a snowman or two. And to go sled riding, of course.
