Seed Library kicks off for gardening season

ST. CLAIRSVILLE –The Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District will once again be offering their Seed Library for the 2022 garden season.

The Seed Library is a public seed sharing program that provides garden seeds at absolutely no charge to participants.

It works just like any library: when you check out a book you have to return it after you are done with it.

So you can come into the district office, 130 W. Main St., St. Clairsville, pick out the seeds that you want to plant this year, sign them out, grow your seeds and be happy, save some seeds from your harvest, return them to the Seed Library so they can be available to someone else next year.

There are vegetable, herb, perennial flower, and annual flower seeds available.

They have multiple packets of most things, but ask that you only take what you need. If a whole packet of tomato seeds is more than you are going to plant this year then only take a few seeds instead.

They realize that some things may be really hard to save seeds from and that’s OK, just save what you can.

Also, be sure not to return seeds that have a potential of being cross pollinated with other plants. When returning seeds be sure to label them with as much detail as you can.
