MR. & MRS. SAMUEL VUCELICH

Samuel and Helen (Laskovitch) Vucelich of Shadyside will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on July 12.

Samuel was born in Dilles Bottom to Rudy and Amanda Vucelich in January 1930, and Helen was born that October in Uncasville, Connecticut, to Matrona and Ignatz Laskovitch. In addition to being born the same year, Sam and Helen were both first generation Americans.

In 1954, Sam was in the U.S. Navy stationed in Connecticut, where he met Helen. On July 12, 1954, they eloped by driving to Bellaire, Maryland. Helen’s, mother and friends surprised them with a reception a few days later.

They welcomed three children together and cultivated a life in Shadyside. Their children married “Shadyside kids” and gave them eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Sam and In addition to family time, they immensely enjoy time with their granddogs.

In their work lives, Sam is retired from Ormet Aluminum Corp. at Hannibal and Helen from the Belmont County Common Pleas Court in Martins Ferry.
