Pancakes to raise roof funds

MARTINS FERRY — A Pancake Breakfast is set to be held at First Presbyterian Church to not only help celebrate Leap Year babies, but to help raise funds for a new roof for the church.

The breakfast is set from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church, located at 400 Walnut St., Martins Ferry. Parishioner Pam Chieffalo said there are different costs depending on one’s age, but the breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage links and a drink. It will take place in the basement fellowship hall of the church.

Those who were born on Feb. 29 can show an ID with their birth date and get a free breakfast. Children can do the same by showing a document with their birth date as well. Children 2 years old and younger eat free.

“All proceeds from this fundraiser are going to our roof fund. We desperately need a new roof; it was damaged during storms,” she said, adding only a “patch job” will be covered by insurance. “The rest of the roof is 30 years old so it needs replaced anyway.”
