BARNESVILLE — The Belmont County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society Annual Picnic and Meeting will take place Sunday, Aug. 11, at the historic Stillwater Quaker Meeting House, 61830 Sandy Ridge Road, just east of Barnesville.

The event is free and open to one and all.

The social hour begins at 2 p.m. followed by the picnic and program at 3p.m.

The program featuring the online “History Search” platform will be presented by Elder Ronald and Sister Linda Chapman of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

FamilySearch is a free online database with billions of ancestor profiles, photographs and historical records. For those interested in researching their family history, there’s a variety of important documents accessible to tell your family’s story including cemetery records, birth, death and marriage records, census records and obituaries.

FamilySearch opens the door to millions of ancestor profiles, family trees and relationships. There’s a possibility your family has already been added to online family trees.

In addition to the program, the meeting provides those attending an opportunity to experience the circa 1878 historic meeting house and Quaker Heritage Museum.

Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to share. The organization will provide ham, beverages, plates, cups and utensils.

Meetings are free and open to the public. For additional information, contact the following BCCOGS officers: Marie Bundy, 740-425-2623 or mmbundy@comcast.net; or Ellen Brown 740-425-1509 or rose-ebrown@comcast.net.
