MARTINS FERRY — Mighty Fine Dog Grooming recently opened for business at 409 Virginia St. in Martins Ferry.

Owned and operated by Leygh Ann Thomas, Mighty Fine has brand new grooming equipment and offers a free pick-up and delivery service for dogs belonging to the elderly, disabled and veterans.

Thomas completed her dog grooming training at the Diamond Cut Dog Grooming School in Medina, Ohio.

“Safety is my No. 1 concern,” Thomas said, adding she uses special slings to provide comfort to the animals. “I never restrain around the neck. … Quality, not quantity, is very important to me.”

Thomas said she decided to become a dog groomer because as a single mother she needed a flexible work schedule.

“I wanted to be my own boss, and I have a passion for animals. I love to see the ‘before and after’ and get to see firsthand how great it makes the animals feel,” she said.

Thomas noted she also has a passion for dachshunds. She owns three of her own and also breeds them.
