BELMONT — Union Local High School’s Commencement is set for 6 p.m. Friday in the high school gymnasium.

Sloan Hanasky is the valedictorian, and receiving salutatorian honors is Abigail Myers.

Hanasky resides in Barkcamp with her mom, Wendy Fogle, and brother, Landen Hanasky. Sloan Hanasky is finishing her high school career with a 4.939 grade point average.

During her high school years, Hanasky has been a four-year member of the track team, where she holds the school record in discus and received the most improved award. She is also a two-year member of the golf team and a two-year member of the cheer team, where she has received the showmanship spirit award. Hanasky is a part of the National Honor Society, the president of the JSA Close Up club, and a member of the Superintendent’s Council, Spanish club, culture club, drug-free club, youth-led club, and student council. She will represent Union Local in the Queen of Queens pageant for the OVAC All-Star Football game this summer. Outside of school, Hanasky is an active member of The Experience Church in St. Clairsville and works at Avenue Eats, located in Waterfront Hall.

Her future plans include attending Florida Gulf Coast and pursuing a degree in marketing.

Myers resides in Holloway with her parents, Buck and Brandy Myers, and her older brother, Brody Myers. Abigail Myers is finishing her high school career with a 4.904 GPA.

During her high school years, Myers was a two-year National Honor Society member and spent six years as a mat-stat for the wrestling team. She has been involved in the College Credit Plus program for three years, with the first year taking courses from both Belmont College and Ohio University Eastern College at the high school to get a feel for both colleges. The last two years she has been exclusively attending Ohio University Eastern fulltime through the College Credit Plus program.

After graduation, she plans on attending Ohio University Eastern for a degree in nursing and hopes to one day become a nurse practitioner in an undecided specialty.

Union Local Superintendent Zac Shutler will present the class during the ceremony and the board president, Dylan Fowkes, will accept the class.

Music will be provided by the school band directed by Thomas Swisher. Juniors Delaney Butler and Brady Roe will serve as marshals with Aubrey Edwards and Laila Moore as ushers.
