MOUNDSVILLE — Petion-Ville Grand Vue Park has weekend summer events planned for the remainder of June and throughout July for visitors to enjoy, from an Adventure Weekend to July 4 celebrations.
Grand Vue Park General Manager Craig White said that in addition to the activities calendar lineup, attendees can also enjoy staples at the park all summer, including swimming, miniature golf and zip lining.
“It’s our goal to provide activities for all our guests staying in the park, as well as the community,” White said. “We hope Grand Vue is a place that the community can enjoy, so we have all kinds of activities planned for everybody to come up and try.”
The last weekend of June activities will feature outdoor fun. From Friday, June 27, to Sunday, June 29, there will be an Adventure Weekend featuring a variety of outdoor activities, such as guided hikes through the park’s trails and birdwatching.
“We’ve got birding, walks, hikes and all those fun outdoor activities,” White said. “People will be able to spend the weekend outside and expand their concepts of nature.”
The highlight of Adventure Weekend will be the GVP Mountain Bike Challenge, the premier mountain bike race in the tri-state area. During the challenge, riders can take on the park’s trails. The challenge has beginner, sport and expert classes. Those interested can register at WVMBA.com.
Red, White & Blue Weekend will be next on the park’s weekend event lineup. The weekend will begin with a Fourth of July Flag Hunt at 9 a.m. Friday, July 4, at the Main Office. Over $1,500 in prizes will be up for grabs. Participants must register before 9:30 a.m. to participate.
Friday festivities will continue with a Watermelon Eating Contest at 2 p.m. at the Barn Shelter. Red, White & Blue Tie Dye will finish Friday activities at 5 p.m. at the Chevron Learning Center. There is a $5 per-shirt entry fee.
The July 4 celebrations will continue on Saturday, July 5. They will include free patriotic-themed crafts at 2 p.m. at the Barn Shelter and a free Foam Party from 5-6 p.m. behind the Vue Bar & Grill. The festivities will continue into the night with live music from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Hardy & Hardy Media Stage near the Vue Bar & Grill.
“The live music at the Vue Bar is another way to entice people up the park,” White said. “We have a lot of bands scheduled at the restaurant.”
Activities will continue next weekend, as Friday, July 11, and Saturday, July 12, will be the Glow Weekend. Visitors will be invited to take on the Dueling Yahoos Zipline after sundown on Friday, beginning at 9:15 p.m. at basecamp. Limited tickets are available and can be booked online at grandvuepark.com or by calling the Main Office at 304-845-9810, ext. 403.
Saturday’s “glowing” lineup of activities will feature a Smart Centre Star Watch from 8-10 p.m. at the Grand Vue Adventure lot. Attendees can also play 18 holes of mini golf with glow elements from 9-11 p.m. at the mini golf course for $7 per person.
“We have all kinds of fun glow-in-the-dark activities for people to try, whether it’s night zip lining and glow-in-the-dark miniature golf,” White said.
White noted that Grand Vue will have plenty to offer outside of activity weekends, adding that the Grand Vue Park Aquatic Center was particularly popular during the hot weather in the valley. The aquatic center features a 7,500-square-foot pool, a 21-foot-tall dual slide tower and spraying toys for young children.
“The water park has been well-received over the last couple of days due to the hot weather,” White said. “If it gets cold, the water is heated, so visitors can still come and have a nice afternoon at the pool.”
