How To Help/How To Get Help

A number of organizations around the Ohio Valley are pitching in to help those in Ohio County hit hard by Saturday night’s flash floods. Those organizations also could use some help in assisting others. Below are just some of the groups that are giving their time and efforts to help flood victims.

∫ The American Red Cross of the Central Appalachia Region is assisting those in Ohio County. Those whose homes have been impacted can call 1-800-RED-CROSS for assistance. Those wanting to volunteer can visit https://bit.ly/BeaHeroToday.

∫ Donations can be dropped off at the Emergency Management Agency’s Central Receiving Site at 25 Armory Drive in Wheeling – call first at 304-234-7109 – and at Elm Grove Elementary from 8 a.m.-noon through Friday. Among items needed are bleach, work and latex gloves, toilet paper, mops, paper towels, rakes, brooms, trash bags, shovels, first aid kits, flashlights, portable batteries and chargers for cell phones, pet food, shelf-stable food and can openers.

∫ Appalachian Outreach is collecting items and monetary donations at their site at 3900 Wood St. in Wheeling. They are in need of hygiene items, shelf-stable foods, flashlights and batteries, packages of socks and underwear, cleaning products, excess furniture and appliances and building materials. Monetary donations can be made over the phone from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday by calling 304-238-4312.

∫ The Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center in Wheeling is accepting food, cleaning supplies, and hygiene product donations Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon.

∫ The Bethlehem Apostolic Temple will distribute free food, clothing, and cleaning supplies to local flood victims from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church’s fellowship hall, located at 330 Main Street, Wheeling. Residents in need can call the church to arrange alternate pickup times.

∫ Chef Adam Luiso of Chef N Company is welcoming anyone in need of a hot meal to visit the American Legion Post 1 headquarters at 45 Sycamore Ave. in Wheeling at 5 p.m. daily. He is also accepting donations of vegetables and proteins like beef, pork and chicken. Those donations can be dropped off at the Post 1 headquarters.

∫ A group of moms around the Ohio Valley are offering to wash the clothes of flood victims in need of clean things to wear. Those needing their clothes washed can call Megan Coffman at 614-352-3287 or Brean Vaske at 412-443-8416. Anyone wanting to join the group to help wash clothes can also call those two numbers.

∫ Restore Yoga + Wellness is serving as a donation drop-off location for Ohio Valley Mutual Aid. People can drop off items at 51342 National Road, Suite L, in St. Clairsville. Drop items off in the hallway outside the studio door. The business is located behind the Pizza Hut in the plaza area. Flat shovels are needed, as are paper towels, rags, bleach, spray cleaner, laundry soap, dish soap, trash bags, brooms, buckets, waterproof gloves, rubber boots and waders.
