Woman arrested on charges of stealing Weirton bus

WEIRTON — A Pittsburgh woman has been charged with grand larceny after allegedly taking a Weirton Transit bus for a ride around a parking lot on Freedom Way on Saturday.

A criminal complaint filed against Tina M. Renner, 39, of Pittsburgh states she was identified as a woman who took pepperoni rolls, candy and a large slushie from the BFS gas station store on Freedom Way and then climbed aboard the transit bus, which she drove around the building to an area near the Huddle House restaurant next door.

The complaint states a clerk at the store observed Renner taking the items without paying and entering the bus and assumed she was the driver until the driver came outside, yelling, “That’s my bus!”

The driver told police he was able to board the bus and take control of it while Renner fled through its rear emergency exit.

The sole passenger on the bus told police the woman allegedly laughed as she took the wheel, saying she was going to drive it home to Butler County. He said he was concerned that he was being kidnapped.

City police said they found Renner later in the 4100 block of Washington Street and arrested her without incident.

They said a warrant had been issued from Pennsylvania for her arrest for a probation violation.

Her case is pending in Brooke County Magistrate Court.
