Woman found dead in burning home

FOLLANSBEE — Firefighters found a woman dead in her burning home at 808 Allegheny St. on Friday morning.

City Fire Chief Larry Rea didn’t release the woman’s name because her family hadn’t been notified.

He said the fire was under investigation by the Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office and the cause hadn’t been determined.

Rea said the fire appeared to originate from the bedroom where the woman was found.

He said the fire had spread to the kitchen but was contained by firefighters, who also found a dead dog in the home.

Rea said much of the house sustained heavy smoke damage.

Follansbee firefighters were assisted by members of the Hooverson Heights and Weirton fire departments.
