Council member faces OVI charge

BELLAIRE — A village councilman is facing an OVI charge after allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol this past weekend.

According to Belmont County court records, Donald Maupin Sr., a Bellaire resident and councilman, was arrested Sunday by Bellaire police for first-offense operating a vehicle intoxicated charge, a misdemeanor, on Belmont Street.

Maupin’s blood-alcohol content level allegedly registered at 0.113 percent. In Ohio, it is illegal to drive with a BAC above 0.08 percent.

Maupin appeared before county Eastern Division Court Judge David Trouten on Monday and pleaded innocent. He is being represented by attorney Adam Myser. His pretrial hearing has been set for Dec. 10.

Maupin was granted a recognizance bond, which states that he must not violate any laws and must attend future court appearances.

Maupin on Tuesday declined to comment, citing advice from his attorney.
