Drugs, guns seized in Martins Ferry search
MARTINS FERRY — A city man is behind bars after police searched his home early Thursday.
The Martins Ferry Police Department with assistance from the Bridgeport Police Department served a search warrant at 628 Columbus Ave., Apartment A207. The warrant was obtained after a narcotics investigation initiated by Martins Ferry officers Tim Starkey and Zack Cole.
According to a news release, Starkey and Cole investigated alleged criminal drug trafficking activity of Jermaine Thompson and obtained 8.5 grams of crack cocaine.
According to the report, the search of Thompson’s apartment yielded 5.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, two grams of suspected cocaine, five schedule two suspected pressed pills, 13 grams suspected marijuana, one Ruger 9mm and one hi-point .380 with magazines, several miscellaneous drug abuse instruments, and $428 in cash.
The release states Thompson was on bond from prior drug charges stemming from a traffic stop conducted by Martins Ferry Police on July 3, where officers seized approximately 31.3 grams of suspected crack cocaine. Thompson was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of trafficking in drugs, two counts of drug possession, possession of schedule II drugs, two counts of possessing weapons under disability, and possession of drug abuse instruments. Thompson, 50, of 628 Columbus Avenue, Martins Ferry, was taken to the Belmont County Jail.
