BELLAIRE – Neffs Volunteer Fire Department, Belmont County Coroner’s Office, Cumberland Trail Fire District, Belmont County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshal were called to a structure fire on McCurdy Road.
Belmont County Coroner Amanda Fisher said that her office was notified at 8:35 am that there was a fatality resulting from the fire.
“A fire was called in, actually, from a member of Neffs Fire Department who saw smoke while he was driving and came to check it out. When he got to the house, it was fully engulfed in flames, and Neffs responded, as well as Cumberland Trail and the state fire marshal were on scene. Obviously it’s still under investigation, but there was one male fatality from the fire,” Fisher said. “We are going to take the deceased for an autopsy, just to rule out anything that could have been suspicious or suicide, and that’s just standard protocol for us. We don’t want to leave any stone unturned, so we’ll do an autopsy, just as a precaution, to make sure that there wasn’t anything else criminal that could have occurred.”
She added that the deceased was the only person who lived at the house and nobody else was at the home at the time of the fire. She did not release the identity of the fire victim.
