W.Va. man arrested on drug charges

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — A Clarksburg, West Virginia, man was recently arrested on several drug charges after large amounts of drugs were allegedly found in a Belmont County storage unit, according to the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office.

Tyrell Silas Askerneese, 46, was arrested in St. Clairsville on charges of trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine, and three counts of having weapons under disability.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Belmont County Criminal Interdiction Unit executed a search warrant at a storage unit in Belmont County on July 26, seizing more than 450 grams of cocaine, bulk amounts of suspected fentanyl, and ecstasy. Three firearms and $3,000 in suspected drug proceeds were also confiscated as part of this investigation.

Askerneese is considered a major drug offender under Ohio law and is prohibited from possessing firearms. Although Askerneese was not on scene during the search warrant, he was located at another business in Belmont County and was arrested.

The arrest was a combined effort of the Belmont County Criminal Interdiction Unit and the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force with assistance from the road patrol units and the St. Clairsville Police Department.
