ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Ohio Valley Mall patrons continue to get more shopping options, as new stores keep opening under its roof.
Since this past summer, eight new entities have been announced that they will be opening locations inside of the mall. Piercings N More, JD Sports, Golden Ticket Cinemas, Angels All-Star Cheering, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Burlington Coat Factory, Boot Barn, and Ironblast’s Game Zone.
Ironblast’s Game Zone opened in the former Sam’s Goody location in July, Angel’s All-Star Cheering opened in the former Elder-Beerman location in September, Piercings N More opened its doors on Tuesday at the former Aeropostale location, and JD Sports is scheduled to open today.
Mall Marketing Director Candi Noble-Greathouse said that, although multiple mall tenants ear piercings, Piercings N More will offer a greater variety of body piercings. She said she receives several calls from residents asking if those shops do body piercings. With the inclusion of Piecings N More to the mall, she will no longer have to turn potential customers away.
Piercing N More regional manager Shiva Ramlakhan said that the business is open regular mall hours and is walk-in only. The location has multiple private piercing rooms to ensure there would be no issue if discretion was necessary. He said that the store will pierce any body part a customer chooses and he offers high end quality body jewelry.
Ramlakhan said that customer traffic has been slow but steady, which he expected until the community becomes familiar with the store.
“You gotta remember, there’s always somebody turning 16, someday, somewhere, that always wants a piercing,” Ramlakhan said.
Although minors are allowed body piercing, anyone under 17 must have a parent or legal guardian present during the piercing to sign documents consenting to the minor’s piercing.
“(Ages) 18 and older, obviously, just come in. But anyone 17 or under you got to have a parent, there’s no ifs, ands or buts about that; that’s just the law,” he said.
Ramlakhan added that the business was started roughly a year ago and has expanded throughout the tri-state area with plans of going national.
Noble-Greathouse said that mall parent company Cafaro Co. has several Piercing N More locations in other malls it owns and have been incredibly popular within those communities.
Located at the former Finish Line location, JD Sports is the updated version of the store and opens its doors Thursday. JD Sports purchased Finish Line in 2018, and has since been converting its locations into JD Sports stores.
Store manager Kyle Hess said that his location has been operating as a JD Sports since the purchase but now is able to make the transition official.
“It’s pretty much a rebrand. The Ohio Valley has known Finish Line for two to three decades now, and it’s gonna take some getting used to, but they’re still going to get great customer service,” Hess said. “Everything Finish Line had pretty much transferred over to JD. So when it comes to the actual customer experience, whether that be in person, shopping online or via the app, everything’s going to remain the same, just under a new name.”
He added that his location was closed for two and a half weeks for the new remodel and he could not be happier with the final product.
“We’re excited to get open and give the Ohio Valley a good shopping experience,” Hess said.
After over a year without a theater, Golden Ticket Cinemas is set to open in November at the former AMC Theater location. Noble-Greathouse said that the theater is aiming for a soft opening just in time to show “Wicked For Good.” According to the theater’s website, it is currently offering pre-sale tickets, but only for “Wicked For Good” starting as soon as November 20.
The cinema will feature luxury recliners, an extensive food and beverage menu, deliver-to-seat service, and upgraded visuals and sound.
Academy Sports + Outdoors and Burlington will soon occupy much of what used to be a Sears location, and Boot Barn will set up shop in part of another former Macy’s location.
Noble-Greathouse said that, as of now, none of the three stores have an opening date, but she anticipates the fourth quarter of 2026.
