Frederic Paul Thompson, age 85, of Columbus died September 8, 2022. Fred was a systems analyst, retired from Lucent Technologies and a long-time volunteer at Mount Carmel East Hospital. He graduated from The Ohio State University and Martins Ferry High School and attended Church of the Redeemer United Methodist Church. Bernard “Bernie” Matusik, 77, of Adena, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday October 5, 2022, at home. He was born February 15, 1945, a son of the late John and Frances Kroflich Matusik. Bernie was a retired employee of CONSOL. John J. Spiga, Jr., 73, of Flushing, died Tuesday, October 4, 2022 in WVU Wheeling Hospital. He was born in Martins Ferry on July 22, 1949, a son of the late John J. Spiga, Sr and Agnes E. Pabin Spiga. A graduate of Seton Central High School, Lafferty and a Union Township Trustee, John was a coal miner for many years and worked his family farm. Ethel Mae McFarland, 87, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died October 5, 2022, in Bell Gardens Place, Hillsboro, Ohio. She was born August 19, 1935, at Pipe Creek, Ohio, a daughter of the late Ralph William Palmer and Edna May Palmer. Ethel was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a retired employee of the Harts Family Center in Lansing, had worked at the House of Hearts in St. Clairsville, and was a Licensed Practical Nurse.
