John Henry Hughes, 84, of Columbus, Ohio, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at OSU Wexner Medical Center. He was born January 7, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late James Wesley Hughes and Mary Kostelia Hughes. A 1960 graduate of St. Clairsville High School, John was an Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology at The Ohio State University. Sara Sue Vavra, 85, of Shadyside, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Wheeling Hospital. There will be no visitation. Born on June 30, 1938, in Bellaire, Ohio, a daughter of the late Joseph Bonfini and Mina Trigg Early. Shirley Ann Wilhelm, 90, of Morristown, Ohio, died Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Wheeling Hospital. She was born July 19, 1935, in Morristown, a daughter of the late Velma Marie McMillan Major and Oliver Cleveland Major. Shirley was a retired schoolteacher having taught at Centerville Elementary and in the Columbus School District. Madelyn was a longtime member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Martins Ferry, where she served on numerous boards.
