Get to the Polls

IF YOU have not taken advantage of the early voting process, then Tuesday is your day.

That is when November’s General Election comes down the pike. And while there is no presidential contest highlighting the ballot, many issues of major local and state importance are featured.

Statewide, several high profile races are before voters, including governor, the US senatorial contest and secretary of state.

But the thrust of this election is on the local front.

A wide range of races, issues and levies are in front of voters.

County commissioner races are in the forefront in all four Eastern Ohio counties. They are contests voters need to take seriously as the winners will help direct the future of their respective counties.

Belmont County has a hotly contested judicial race as three St. Clairsville residents vie for the Eastern Division Court post. Charles Bean, David Trouten and John Vavra all have invested much time into their respective campaigns.

Levies and tax requests, meanwhile, must navigate through tough economic terrain in hopes of gaining voter approval. The money issues will determine the course of operations that various entities will be forced to follow.

Regardless of your stance on various races and issues, we underscore the need for every eligible voter to do so. It is a precious right.

As has been demonstrated many times in recent years, including right here in this area, a handful of votes — even one vote — can make the difference in any race.

So, come Tuesday, we urge all those eligible make sure your vote is counted.
