Here We Go Again

SWITZERLAND OF Ohio Board of Education members must like each other. The board has called a special meeting for Thursday.

It comes on the heels of a meeting just last week — a session which was expected to make final determination on the fate of Beallsville High School.

However, Beallsville High School was not a point of contention at last week’s meeting, although it came at the request of Jackie Hupp. She was one of the three board members who voted in March to close Beallsville High.

Shortly after that decision, Hupp claimed she did not have all the pertinent facts at the time of the vote. She had second thoughts.

That set the foundation for last week’s session.

Surprisingly, Hupp did not attend, leaving the Blue Devil Nation still twisting in the wind.

Summer recess is upon us and uncertainty still shrouds Beallsville High School. We hope that Thursday’s meeting can put the matter to rest.

Hupp should now have all the information she needs to cast an educated vote. We also implore that all five board members attend Thursday’s meeting.

With those two pieces in place, one final vote on whether to keep Beallsville High School open can be made. No more board votes would be necessary.

Superintendent John Hall has the power to close the school, regardless of the board’s decision. That would yield even more chaos should the board opt to keep the school open.

The Beallsville High scenario is one that has played out painfully for much too long. We hope it is put to bed come Thursday evening.
