Cheers & Jeers

CHEERS to KindnessU, a youth-based group, for collecting supplies and monetary donations to benefit the people of East Palestine, Ohio. Neighbors help neighbors in this part of the country.

JEERS to an apparent “bad batch” of illegal drugs that is killing people — especially young people — in local communities.

CHEERS to James Agnew for stepping up to fill a vacancy on Martins Ferry City Council. Agnew already serves the community as a pastor and as a member of the Martins Ferry Board of Education.

JEERS to the fact that local options for soil and water testing are limited. That was revealed after area residents wondered if tests should be done in the wake of the East Palestine derailment that happened about 60 miles away.

CHEERS to news that Buckeye Local School District has found its next superintendent — Coy Sudvary, who grew up in the school system and who previously served as principal of Buckeye Local High School.

CHEERS to JB Green Team for sponsoring its annual community cleanup events. The special collections allow local residents to rid their homes and properties of unused and unwanted items in a responsible way.

CHEERS to the state of Ohio for observing its 220th birthday this past week. The occasion was marked in several ways in various locations.
