Get in the holiday spirit
It’s November. The days are getting shorter, and the first snowfall already has hit the ground.
Since Halloween has passed, some stores already have started playing Christmas carols. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Christmas is less than eight weeks away.
It’s time to get into the holiday spirit — and a number of events this week should help all of us, as the late B.E. Taylor of Wheeling would say, “Feel the love of Christmas.”
On Thursday, the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will visit Wheeling Park, and later that evening, Oglebay’s Winter Festival of Lights will be turned on to brighten the region.
That’s followed Saturday at Cabela’s when Santa Claus himself will be in attendance to kick off the store’s Santa Wonderland Experience.
Also on Saturday, Christmas with the Stars will make its last showing at the Capitol Theatre, with a special tribute to the late Shawn Chrisagis of the Chrisagis Brothers.
Oglebay’s Festival of Trees is scheduled for Friday evening, featuring decorated trees, wreaths, and garlands that can be bid on or, in some cases, purchased outright.
And in Barnesville, Christmas tours of the elaborately decorated Victorian Mansion Museum are already underway and available for individual or small groups by reservation.
There’s much to do to get in the holiday spirit. Get out and enjoy what our area has to offer.
