Shadyside levies

Dear Editor,

The primary election on May 5th, will have two renewal levies for the Shadyside school district to vote on. My questions are how can w the voters make a decision on how to vote i: e: for or against, when we no longer have access in the newspaper to a detailed income and expenditure accounting so the tax payers can review how our tax dollars are being spent by categories?

Why isn’t the state auditors report being published?

If the class sizes will be increased then, send the students from the other districts back to the districts where they came from. I am a firm believer that go to school where you live. If those districts are so bad then it is the obligation of the state to correct the problems. Letting them go to another district is not a solution. If they go to another district, their money stays in the district they left and if they do transfer, then their parents should pay the other district.

It is the school boards duty to control financial expenditures. They work for the voters not the school administration.

How many of you voting for levies are on fixed and diminishing incomes due to the cost of living on the rise? How many of you have lost a spouse, whose income went to the grave with them? What about no pension adjustments and the small social security raises?

The schools must spend their funds with fiscal responsibility. These times call for reducing costs and belt tightening. Pride does not pay bills or buy food. In closing levies are in the primaries because of low voter turn out. The real test of the voters opinions is the general election where there is a larger turnout. The primary voters are those who vote for the levies.

Students who are going to college who do not know what field to study should seriously consider the field of education. They should compare education with other careers, i: e: summer months off, snow days, two weeks off for Christmas and New Year holidays, a master’s degree, an automatic pay raise, excellent health insurance and the most favorable one retiring at a younger age than other careers who face retirement age increases in other fields of endeavor.

Sincerely,

Alfred Tellitocci
