Dear Editor,

As a resident of the city of Martins Ferry, I would like take this opportunity to express my gratitude and appreciation to Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland and all members of the Martins Ferry Police Department for their outstanding work, professionalism and dedication in their efforts to protect and serve the residents of our wonderful city.

Chief McFarland and members of the MFPD have been very proactive, innovative and conscientious in carrying out their duties, emphasizing community outreach programs to residents (i.e. Neighborhood Crime Watch initiatives, programs involving community youth, etc.) which have further enhanced the very positive relationship the department enjoys with the citizens of the area.

Also, in addition to his outstanding service to the city of Martins Ferry, Chief McFarland admirably serves as commander of the Belmont County Drug Task Force, working with law enforcement offices from various entities throughout Belmont County, including those from Martins Ferry, which has done laudatory work combating the war on drugs in the area.

In closing, many thanks to Chief McFarland and his very professional staff for a job so very well done.
