Donald Trump is not my president

Dear Editor,

Forget all those words about unity for country and working together.

It ain’t gonna happen!

The Republicans have unparalleled power. They won — ugly — not only the presidency, but also the Senate, the House of Representatives and, very soon, the Supreme Court, as well as vast control of the state governments. The Republicans are positioned to do whatever they want.

So what?

Well for one, the world is now a much more dangerous place. The Iran nuclear treaty will very soon be abrogated, meaning the Iranians will soon, once again, be producing a nuclear arsenal. And shortly thereafter Israel will be bombing the Iranian nuclear production sites and Iran will follow that with a ballistic missile bombing of Israel, which of course will draw the United States into a terrible ground war with Iran who is four times bigger and more powerful than Iraq.

For another, millions of Americans will lose their health insurance or what they will have will be so limited and expensive as to not be protective. When Obamacare goes so will coverage for pre-existing conditions and dollar limits on coverage will reappear. Medicaid will be handed over to very conservative state governments for their ability to restrict amounts of coverage. Also expect the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, that covers 8 million kids to be cut from the federal budget, as it was under George W. Bush until it was restored under President Obama.

Forget about containing global warming. Forget about preventing the expansive designs of the Russian bear. Forget about looking out for the disadvantaged and the weak and the stateless trying to escape the ravages of war.

Forget about civility.

I have no doubt whatsoever that my concerns stated here are valid.

I can therefore state with clarion clarity that Donald Trump is not my president.

He can count on my resistance.
