Regarding: LifeWise Academy Coming to Shadyside

Editor’s note: This letter, dated Jan. 28, 2023 and addressed to John Haswell, superintendent of Shadyside School District, was also shared with The Times Leader as a letter to the editor. Dear Superintendent Haswell: As you know, The First Amendment reads in part: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...” In other words there is “Separation of Church and State” in the United States. The LifeWise Academy is trying to make an end run around our First Amendment Freedom of Religion rights. LifeWise ...

Partisan politics and two-tiered justice

Dear Editor, Are Americans really this goofy? Every day we lose approximately 300 people to death by fentanyl, and over 100,000 annually to drug overdoses. There are junkies living, defecating and attacking people in the streets! We have had 4 million illegals enter our country since Democrats took over and immediately canceled the remain in Mexico policy and stopped wall construction. Millions of dollars in materials are laying on the ground unused and the Biden administration is preventing border states from using it. In fiscal year 2022 the CBP has apprehended 98 ...

Children of a smaller god

Dear Editor, Recently I have been watching a lot of street preachers on YouTube. I remember as a child in Bellaire my mom would have my brother and I attend every church service at the Salvation Army. One of those services was called, “open air.” We would march up to the corner across from the old national bank building and actually worship Jesus in song and have our pastor preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. On a few occasions a drunk from across the street would harass us but most of the time people would sit in their windows or stand down the street and listen. There ...

Residents thanked for generosity

Dear Editor, I am writing to thank Martins Ferry-area residents for sharing the true meaning of Christmas with children in need this past holiday season. Generosity throughout contributed to a successful shoebox gift collection season at drop-off locations for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child. Across the U.S., the project collected over 9.3 million shoebox gifts in 2022. Combined with those collected from partnering countries in 2022, the ministry is now sending nearly 10.6 million shoebox gifts to children worldwide. Through shoe boxes — packed ...

Gamble on God

Dear Editor, Draft King Casino, Fan Dual, what a wonderful gambling thing now in Ohio. WOW, what a way to spend your money. Gamble and lose. Boy is that interesting. One can sit in their home, car, work or wherever, place bets knowing that you will not win. Well let me give you a sure way to win by giving your money. Try going to church on Sunday where you can receive the word of God, and get this, not lose. You will be welcomed to a community where you do not have to gamble. Churches have been around for thousands of years. Oh yes, you can gamble in church. Gamble ...

The Republicans’ accomplishments

Dear Editor, Republicans, in their first few weeks of congressional majority, have achieved some remarkable things. They have elected a speaker, after only four days and fifteen ballots; he has, in return, appointed various members of the “freedom caucus” to important committee posts. They, along with others of the new majority, are busily launching “investigations” into every aspect of the Biden administration, evidently as revenge for the well deserved scrutiny of the Trump era. Despite this sudden regard for propriety, they have happily seated George Santos, whose lies ...
