Feeling shame

Dear Editor, The March 10th edition of The Times Leader had a front page (AP) report of “U.S. reaches out to oil states as prices rise.” What a shame our country has become. We witness Russia targeting Ukrainian maternity hospitals, playgrounds, schools and apartment buildings on “live TV” and do too little too late. And now we ask Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela to supply us with oil. These countries are arguably worse than Russia. BTW, the Saudi crown prince would not accept our president’s phone call. Our leaders ask us to “Pray” for Ukraine. WE need ...

The Big Lie

Dear Editor When I first read about The Big Lie, I had to stop and think for a second. Then I realized that it was in reference to Donald Trump’s belief that he actually won the Presidentital Election. This also brought back some memories from long ago. The first big lie I was introduced to was LBJ and his campaign for president in 1964. I was a Pfc. in the Army at the time, and the Vietnam conflict was a situation of military advisors and protecting the South Vietnamese people. Barry Goldwater, the Republican candidate, was the Hawk. He wanted to take the war to the North, instead ...

The great collapse

Dear Editor, Many were shocked and disheartened by Canada’s recent resortment to tyranny to shut down what was a peaceful demonstration by the Canadian truckers. I am not surprised. Since early 2020, the same totalitarian instinct has invaded other Western Democratic nations. Think of what has happened in Australia, Austria, France, the United Kingdom and some major cities and states in America. To various degrees, all these governments trampled on individual liberty, demanding compliance to their draconian measures. The message is clear. Comply or you’ll be fined or you’ll ...

Truth

Dear Editor, “Remember: democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to say that democracy is less vain, less proud, less ambitious, or less avaricious than aristocracy or monarchy. ... Those passions are the same in all men, under all forms of simple government, and when unchecked, produce the same effects of fraud, violence, and cruelty.” — John Adams in a letter to John Taylor, 1814 as cited by M. E. Boyd, “The Test of Time” 2/15/2022 As “A Republic under the ...

Candidate speaks out about race

Dear Editor, On Feb 12th in Marysville, Ohio, a group of protesters gathered to hold a “White Lives Matter” event. I did not run for Congress to stay silent, especially while armed white supremacists attempt to influence and corrupt our district. The right of assembly is protected in our first amendment, and I enlisted in the armed forces to defend those rights. Today, however, I am horrified that individuals here in Ohio are choosing to use this right to spew racist hatred and vitriol. And I won’t stand for it. I have been honored to call myself an Ohioan my entire ...

Hold former President Trump accountable

Dear Editor, Alarmingly, it has recently been reported that former president Donald J. Trump, allegedly, took no fewer than 15 boxes of official government records with him to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, upon his leaving the White House, following his 2020 Presidential electoral defeat, which he was required by law to have turned over to the National Archives and Records Administration, and, as a result, the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as the FBI will be investigating what crimes, if any, had been committed by the former president in his seemingly desperate ...
