Afghan withdrawal in historical context

Dear Editor, Although the recent U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, following 20 years of our involvement in the Afghan conflict, which has reportedly cost our great nation in excess of $2 trillion to date as well as the lives of over 241,000 Americans, Afghans and U.S. allies, has in actuality not gone particularly well. Our adversaries, the Taliban, already gaining control of much of the nation, and much criticism is being directed toward President Biden and his administration. In response, therefore, as a result, I feel that historical perspective should be considered. Many of ...

Foreshadow

Dear Editor, A very frightening aspect of the end times is beginning to foreshadow across the world and across this country. First we saw the horror of identity politics and social Marxism. The desire to divide us according to the color of our skin is wrong, according to scripture. But Matthew 24:7, which speaks of the end times, says nation will arise against nation. Originally the New Testament was written in ancient Greek. This phrase was originally written as “ethnos against ethnos.” Ethnic groups will rise against ethnic groups. Second, Homeland Security named ...

Liberals, or Chinese Communists?

Dear Editor, Who pushes these narratives, the Democrats or China? ∫ The travel ban to China is xenophobic. ∫ The Chinese lab leak theory is a conspiracy. ∫ Covid came naturally from a bat. ∫ Lockdowns and closing our economy worked, and we should continue where our bureaucrats say. ∫ You should turn in friends and family you consider to be radicals. ∫ Some books, ideas, and people should be banned or canceled. ∫ Drastic restrictions on gun owners are needed ∫ America is not an exceptional country, and suffers from systematic racism. ∫ ...

Surviving Biden

Dear Editor, My conscience is clear. I knew what was coming. I also knew that you voted for a sick old man because you hated Trump more than you love this great nation. As with all liberals and the percent disastrous administration, none of you will take the blame. You remind me of Baghdad Bob — complete denial. As he destroys the basics that America was founded upon in only eight months, I challenge you to list one example of a positive policy for America. Was it stopping stay in Mexico, closing XL pipeline, or allowing the Russians their pipeline to Europe? Maybe you ...

Response to Martins Ferry mayor

Dear Editor, This is in response to The Times Leader article published on August 19th about the Mayor’s response regarding radium and water testing. The mayor stated that lies have been told about the Austin Masters situation. Our group, Concerned Ohio River Residents, has not told any lies regarding this situation. In fact, we brought in experts to our meeting (Aug. 19), including Dr. Julie Weatherington-Rice, who is an Ohio groundwater expert. She has been working in the fields of air, soil and water protection for more than 50 years, and is with Bennett & Williams ...

Afghanistan

Dear Editor, My heart aches for the Afghan people but I’m so proud that we have a president who has enough nerve to rip the band-aid off. We were sucked into the business of nation building when we should’ve realized that this would become a quagmire just like Vietnam. It wouldn’t matter if we stayed there for one more day or ten more years, the Taliban was always waiting for the day we left. Regarding women in Afghanistan, I feel that the change has to come from them. As someone who has lived in Muslim countries, I personally feel one of the problems is that many ...
