Good to see Tiger playing more events

Tri-state golf fans got some good news Wednesday morning when Tiger Woods delcared, via his Twitter account, that he would be playing both the Memorial and the Greenbrier events.

Most PGA fans watch the events regardless of who is playing, but when Woods in the field the audiences are far more wide-ranging because it draws in neutral observers who simply like to watch the world’s best player perform his craft.

Yes, I called him the world’s best player. He’s been a slump as he’s battled injuries, personal issues and other problems. But, he showed a few weeks ago at the Masters what he’s capable of doing.

Woods is going to continue to round back into form and by the time the first weekend in June rolls around in Dublin, he could be playing much better. Taking that a step further, when the Greenbrier is held in July, he should be even better.

I’ve debated several times with people on whether or not Woods will win another major and I still firmly believe he will. Will he catch Jack Nicklaus? I don’t know, but I am still thinking he’ll make a solid run at his 18 majors.

A good start to making a run could be winning Jack’s tournament in June. That would be quite the boost heading into the U.S. Open, which opens June 18 at Chambers Bay in Washington.

Off The Tee golf section is back again and will once again run twice during the week throughout the spring and summer.

As I try to make this column as much about local golf as possible, I need your help. If you’re having a scramble, we want to hear about it. If you have results of a league, we want to hear about those, too. If you know of just something interesting happening in golf, we want that info as well. Don’t forget about area natives who are playing golf collegiately. Feel free to send information on those as well.

Basically, if it’s local golf related, feel free to submit it because we want to hear about it.
