Prep Baseball/Softball Roundup: Bellaire baseball tops Edison and softball sweeps Monroe

NEFFS — Bellaire sophomore Jake Heatherington was simply too much on the mound for Edison Saturday evening. He fanned seven and issued just two walks in a complete-game, two-hit gem in a 2-1 Big Reds victory.

Heatherington was backed by a RBI single from Kadan Banal. Andrew Lamotte had a pair of singles.

OLD WASHINGTON — Monroe Central went on the road for a pair Saturday and was blanked in both outings by the Warriors.

In the opener, Trail received a gem from Isaac Burga, who struck out 13 Seminoles.

Westin Swallow had a double for the Seminoles.

In the second game, Monroe Central pounded out just four hits and sophomore Jake Winland had two of those.

Martins Ferry 11, East Liverpool 1

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders made it three wins in as many starts by mercy rule Saturday, posting an impressive victory against the Potters.

Logan Smith was solid on the mound, fanning eight and walking three to earn the win. Senior Chase Goff led the offense with a single, double and RBI. Colin Snedeker had two singles and three RBIs.

Trevor Hanson had two singles, a double and two RBI.

Indian Creek 8, Buckeye Local 0

Indian Creek 10, Buckeye Local 0

WINTERSVILLE — Buckeye Local’s offensive woes continued Saturday as it accumulated just five hits and nary a run in dropping a pair to Indian Creek.

The Redskins (4-1) received brilliant pitching from Aiden Fernandez in the opener. He struck out nine and walked two, while surrendering just a single.

Aiden Orr had a single and two RBI.

In the second game, Hunter Rothacker baffled the Panthers (0-5) to a tune of five strikeouts and just four scattered singles.

Orr had two singles and two RBI, while David Ferroni doubled home two runs. Fernandez was a home run short of the cycle. Corey Cottis had a single, double and two RBI.

Barnesville 14, Philo 12

BARNESVILLE — The Shamrocks remained undefeated in thrilling fashion, posting an eight spot in the sixth for the win.

Kason Powell, who came on in relief to pick up the win, had two singles at the plate. Gavin Carpenter had two singles and two RBI. Kyvan Johnson had a single and three RBI. Evan Carpenter also singled home two runs.

Bellaire 5, Monroe Central 4

ST. JOE — Bellaire picked up a pair of victories Saturday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from invading Monroe Central by scores of 5-4 and 5-1.

In the opener, Jayden Lowe came on in relief and struck out eight and walked just one to earn the win. She also had two singles and a RBI.

Sophie Porter had a pair of doubles, a single and a RBI. Lizzie McAninch had two singles and a RBI.

The Seminoles were led by Trista Morris’ single, triple and RBI. Reagan Hamilton had a RBI double, while Kalista Friday had two singles and a RBI.

In the second game, Grace Maupin picked up the win in the circle with four strikeouts.

Offensively, she had two singles and drove in a run. Kaylan Brown, who drove in two runs in the first game, had another pair of RBI on a triple. McAninch had a single and RBI.

Monroe Central received two singles from Morris.

River 14, Frontier 0

SARDIS — The homesteading Pilots (2-1) made quick and easy work of the Cougars (1-3) Saturday, winning in five innings.

Katie Lively provided plenty of offense to go along with her outstanding pitching. She had two singles, a double and a home run, while driving in two runs. In the circle, she fanned seven and didn’t issue a free pass.

Katie Rufener had three singles, a double and two RBI. Ayden Kraft had a single, double and three RBI. Elizabeth McConn and Lindsey Huffman each had two singles and two RBI.

Toronto 7, Martins Ferry 2

MARTINS FERRY — The Purple Riders (3-3) saw their modest three-game winning streak snapped Saturday by the Red Knights.

Martins Ferry was led at the plate by Taylor Bell, who had two singles and a RBI. Ella McFarland added a double. Danielle Lude singled home a run.

Harrison Central 7, Ridgewood 5

WEST LAFAYETTE — Harrison Central picked up another hard-earned road win Saturday, edging the Generals.

The Huskies were led by Maddy Butler’s double and single. Lexi Ferguson had a big day at the plate with two doubles, a single and a RBI. Danyell Beadling had two singles and a RBI. Alaina Runevitch also drove in a run with a single.

Conotton Valley 11, Bridgeport 1

Conotton Valley 14, Bridgeport 1

BOWERSTOWN — The Rockets exploded for a pair of lop-sided victories Saturday against the invading Bulldogs.

In the opener, Markiee McCormick had two doubles and a RBI for Bridgeport.

In the second game, the Bulldogs mustered just one hit, which was a RBI single by Addison Galowina.
