SHADYSIDE — The Wheeling Central Maroon Knights hunted down a road victory Monday evening against the Shadyside Tigers in a display of two-way dominance which ended in an 82-27 victory for the now 4-0 Knights.

Kaitlyn Blake scored 29 points while Brooke Edge scored 20 to lead the Knights.

The Tigers were led by Macy Hendershot with nine points and Kaci Tsoras with six.

Wheeling Central shot 54.8% from the field while assisting on over half of their field goals.

The Knights got off to a quick 11-3 lead, Brooke Edge hitting a 3-pointer and a long two as Central assisted on four of their five field goals in the stretch, prompting a Shadyside timeout.

Wheeling Central finished with 18 assists, led by Haley Severns with five, Addie Payton with four and Edge with three.

Shadyside got four assists apiece from Tsoras and Taylor Fulton to bring them to eight as a team.

Wheeling Central kept extending the lead, going up 23-3 as the Knights hampered Shadyside’s offense, not allowing them to get into their sets and triggering a ton of loose balls and held balls, keeping the home team from picking up any momentum. Shadyside recorded 26 turnovers and Wheeling Central recorded 10.

Brooke Edge picked up seven steals Monday, while Makayla Faulkner nabbed three steals to lead the Tigers.

Shadyside started to get the wheels turning late in the second, Hendershot and Fulton hitting back-to-back 3-pointers with 2:30 to play in the half, but the gap was still plenty wide going into the locker rooms, Central up 50-20.

Big advantages in the turnover and rebounding battles helped Central stymie any attempt of a Shadyside comeback, the Knights out-rebounding their opponent 30-15 Monday. Severns pulled in 12 rebounds to lead Central, while Blake finished with eight.

Leading her team in both rebound and assists, Severns added six points and two steals for a stat-stuffing outing.

Blake and Hendershot both finished with two blocks on opposing sides.

Wheeling Central led 71-27, the teams pulling their starters partway through the quarter as the clock ran down on the night.

Hendershot and Edge each hit three 3-pointers, Wheeling Central making six as a team while Shadyside hit five. Wheeling Central hit their field goals as a whole at a much higher clip and did better at the line, shooting 8-13 while the Tigers did not take a trip to the line the entire game.

Wheeling Central will be back in action next Monday at St. Marys, while Shadyside (2-5) will travel to Barnesville on Thursday.
