Steubenville Catholic Central rolls over River 57-32

STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central boys’ basketball team bounced back for a big win against River.

A big second quarter enabled the Crusaders to build a double-digit advantage against the Pilots, and third-seeded Catholic Central pulled away from fourth-seed River en route to a 57-32 victory in an OVAC Class 2A Tournament Consolation Final Friday night inside the Mickey Barber Gymnasium in Steubenville.

Three players produced double digits in points for Catholic Central. Individually, Tommy Pergi recorded a team-high 14 points, Benji Rook collected 13 and Camden Bradley tallied 12.

Kabel Islay and Kaden Johnson each contributed eight points for the boys from Monroe County.

Magnolia 71,

Shadyside 62

NEW MARTINSVILLE — A scoring dual between two dangerous seniors guards went in the favor of the Blue Eagles on Friday over the Tigers.

Magnolia’s Hayden Pyles scored 29 while Shadyside’s Ben Cach scored 31, leading their respective teams.

Kingson Christen scored 17 while Dubale Greathouse scored 11 for the Eagles. Tyler Stottlemyer scored nine for Shadyside.

Paden City 56,

Hundred 53

HUNDRED — The Wildcats escaped with a road win on Friday over the Hornets.

Jeremiah Thomas led Paden City with 14 points. Joey Baker (12), Brayden Neff (11) and Mickey Guerra (10) joined him in double figures.

Trey Huggins scored 15 for Hundred, followed by Colt Sandy (14) and Brayden Bartrug (12).

Martins Ferry 57, Buckeye Trail 36

LORE CITY — The Purple Riders avenged a loss to the Warriors from earlier in the season with a decisive win Friday.

Alex Reese scored 18 to pace Ferry, while Turner Krol scored 10 points.

Ferry held Buckeye Trail to just 12 points in the second half.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wheeling Central 52, Charleston Catholic 34

WHEELING — Kaitlyn Blake continued her strong junior campaign Friday, helping the Wheeling Central Maroon Knights top the Charleston Catholic Irish.

Blake scored 21 points to lead all scorers as Central moved to 13-7 on the season. Addie Payton scored 17 for the Knights.
