Coaches of Weir High To Lead West Virginia squad

WHEELING — The Weir High football staff was rewarded for winning the OVAC Class 4A title and advancing to the W.Va. Class AA semifinals with the announcement that they would lead the West Virginia All Stars in Saturday night’s game against Ohio at Wheeling Island Stadium.
The Red Riders went 11-2 under head coach Frank Sisinni, who was, subsequently, named the OVAC Class 4A Coach of the Year.
∫ FRANK SISINNI — A graduate of Brooke High School, Sisinni has also coached at his alma mater and Steubenville among his 25 years in the sport. He is in his 12th year at Weir, the l;ast four as head coach. He is 22-17 as a head coach.
Sisinni led the Weir High softball team to the regional finals in 2018 as the head coach. They finished 20-8.
He served as an assistant coach on the 2010 W.Va. staff for the OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Game.
Sisinni is a West Liberty University graduate.
He and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Weirton.
∫ JOHN LEARY — A 1980 graduate of Brooke and a 1984 alum of West Liberty, Leary has been coaching football for 38 years, the last 10 at Weir.
He is also the head softball coach at Weir and helped with the boys basketball program. He has also coached baseball, track, golf and wrestling.
He and his wife, Linda, have a daughter: Johnna. They reside in Wellsburg.
∫ TOM TAYLOR — This 1981 graduate of Weir has coached in the OVAC Rudy Mumley game as a head coach in 2003 and an assistant in 2009.
Taylor has worn many hats during his 34 years of coaching, which has included head coaching stops at Madonna and Oak Glen. He has 25 years experience as an assistant coach and has been with the Red Riders for 22 seasons. He was the Golden Bears head football coach from 2000-2006 and at Weir from 2009-10.
He is currently the head wrestling coach at Weir and has also coached boys track.
Taylor and his wife, Ropberta, have a daughter: Lydia. They reside in Weirton.
∫ DAVID COWDEN — This former Red Rider quarterback participated in the 1986 OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Game. He is the current Weir head baseball coach and has been coaching football at Weir for 11 years.
Cowden attended Clarion University.
He and his wife, Allison, have three children: Adam, Kaleigh and Elliana. They reside in Weirton.
∫ CHRIS HILL — A graduate of Weir High School, Hill has been coaching for 18 years, the past six with the Red Riders. He was a member of the 2015 West Virginia All-Star team.
He has also coached football at Oak Glen and was named the 2019 Defensive Coach of the Year by WTOV.
A graduate of Whereling University, Hill and his wife, Nicolette, have a son, Lowry, and reside in Follansbee.
